#BleedGood: Period Dignity for All
Menstrual hygiene isn't just about health; it's a fundamental right that every woman deserves. According to available data, the lack of access to affordable menstrual products and inadequate knowledge of menstrual hygiene impedes 2.5 million Sri Lankan women, trapping them in period poverty.
The #BleedGood project, a collaborative movement led by the Selyn Foundation, is committed to supporting women and girls in Sri Lanka facing period poverty. Through the provision of free reusable sanitary pads and comprehensive menstrual health education, we address the critical gaps in access to affordable menstrual hygiene products and information. Beyond merely providing a product solution, #BleedGood ignites a compassionate movement for empowerment and well-being.
With #BleedGood, we are stepping up to the plate, not merely as providers of practical solutions, but as architects of change and champions of empowerment. We have created the #BleedGood initiative, collaborating with many partners for its implementation, to build a community of support, resilience, and empowerment for women across Sri Lanka.

Our Approach
#BleedGood: A Multifaceted Approach
Empowering women and girls to manage menstruation safely and with dignity, #BleedGood integrates this aspect of their lives into their daily routines while equipping them with knowledge for making informed health decisions. In collaboration with our partners, #BleedGood strives for lasting social change, including improved health, education, workforce participation, and gender equity.
We Empower
By donating reusable fabric sanitary napkins, we offer access to menstrual hygiene products for women and young girls living in period poverty in Sri Lanka. These reusable pads are crafted by the Selyn network of female artisans, providing not only a solution for menstrual hygiene but also ensuring consistent income and flexible working options for these women.
We Educate
By conducting awareness sessions on menstrual hygiene and reproductive health with medical professionals, including reproductive health check-ups, we equip individuals with vital knowledge. Our workshops also focus on addressing gender-based violence and child abuse, capitalizing on the safe environment created for discussion.
We Enable
#BleedGood creates a platform for purely collaborative efforts, challenging societal norms, and providing comprehensive support through holistic interventions.
Impact
#BleedGood: People & Planet Integrated Approach
Our movement impacts lives across Sri Lanka while also reducing the burden created by disposable pads on our environment.
Empowering Communities, Changing Lives: Who Benefits from
Our project leaves no one behind, directly impacting and empowering several key groups:
Women Aged 18-50: Selected from rural areas of low and middle-income communities in Sri Lanka, these women receive access to vital menstrual hygiene products and health education, fostering dignity and well-being.
Selyn Artisans: Through pad production, marginalized artisans find consistent work, promoting economic independence during challenging times. Many of these artisans are sole breadwinners, and this opportunity provides stability and empowerment.
Our initiative goes beyond direct beneficiaries, extending support to families by providing reusable sanitary napkins and free medical check-ups, easing economic burdens and promoting sustainability. Access to reusable products reduces menstruation-related expenses, alleviating financial strain and fostering resilience. Additionally, offering medical screenings for life-threatening conditions enhances preventive healthcare, potentially saving lives and strengthening community resilience.
Commitment to continuous improvement: A detailed monitoring framework tracks progress, showcasing the impact of improved menstrual hygiene access. This rigorous monitoring, aligned with Results Based Management principles, fosters ongoing learning and accountability, aiming to alleviate those suffering from period poverty.
The #BleedGood project, a collaborative movement led by the Selyn Foundation, stands alongside its partners in supporting women and girls in Sri Lanka facing period poverty. Together, we strive for lasting social change, encompassing improved health, education, workforce participation, and gender equity.
